Dating allowance

Dating allowance has been a controversial allowance. A Bangalore-based software giant got into problem over it. Their human resource department made a unique allowance called dating allowance. Even though there was nothing vulgar about it, in a conservative country like India it was taken in a bad taste.

Indians felt that the dating allowance policy of this software company was not sending a good signal to people. They felt it was encouraging promiscuity, adultery, and short-lived relationships. In a country like India where marriages are made and forced to last long, dating allowances only encouraged people to have more choices.

But employees of the company maintained that there was no such thing. It was just a rumor that spread like wild fire. In India, a rumor travel faster than the speed of light. With tons and tons of people in the country, a small misunderstanding can create havoc. And in this case it was the dating allowance issue.

A company spokesman denied the existence of such an allowance. The vehement denial contradicted with what was reported in the papers. The software company said that the media people were creating something that was untrue. How can they have such an allowance? Is it not ridiculous?

It all started when an employee of a company was sued for deserting his wife. His wife alleged that her husband left her because the company in which he worked gave a dating allowance. This was totally refuted by the employee. But the problem was that the court dragged the employer in it too!
