Good leadership is essential to the success of any small business. An entrepreneur needs to understand how to be a good leader to his employees, subcontractors and any other business associates. Armando Montelongo is a successful real estate entrepreneur that understands the value of being a good leader. There are behaviors and characteristics that all good leaders have in common that you should become intimately familiar with.

Be Firm but Fair

A leader needs to command respect from everyone he comes into contact with. The way to command respect is to carefully analyze situations and make decisions that are firm but fair. When you skew your decisions towards one side or the other and show any signs of favoritism, your credibility is damaged.

Be Available

A good leader interacts with the people he is responsible for and offers advice along with career development assistance. When you close your office door to your employees, you drive a wedge between you and them that creates an unhappy workplace. Be available to your staff, and take the time to mingle with them to understand each of their job duties.

Work Along With Them

Employees are more apt to perform at a high level when they know that the business owner works as hard as they do. Let your staff see you hard at work every day, and let them know that you are working hard as well. Leading by example is the strongest kind of leadership you can offer.

A leader is someone who inspires confidence in himself and the company. When you take the time to be a good leader, you are helping to improve company productivity and profitability.
